As a Minister your marriage is very important to me. I myself have been married for eleven years now to my wonderful wife Amy. We have a happy marriage. I want to tell you why....
- In our marriage we have always made a commitment to keep God first. (Remember what Jesus said "Seek First the Kingdom of God"
- We always communicate (it is very important that you do not bottle your feelings up. If you do then you are destined for a big blow up)
- We are respectful of each other (This means not always getting what I want but doing what is best for both of us and our children)
- The Scripture's say that we have become one ... we take this very serious ... We try to put each other first. Jesus was asked what is the most important commandment...He said to Love your Neighbor as yourself. If you have been made one through marriage then you have to put your spouse first.
- Always remember and refer back to this from time to time...
1 Corintians 13 Love is patient and kind. love does not envy, love does not boast, love is not proud, Rude or self-seeking, Love is not easily angered and it keeps no record of wrongs. Love always protects, trusts, hopes and perseveres. Love never fails.
- This kind of love ... I promise you will never fail you.
Are you a Christian?
Have you surrendered your life to God's authority?
I believe that a Marriage should be started on a firm foundation. If you cannot answer yes to the following questions please at least consider what I have to say next.
I want to tell you briefly how I come to know Jesus Christ as my Lord.
My Story
I grew up in a broken home from the beginning. My mother had me when she was 15 years of age. I grew up not knowing my father. When I was about 6 years old my great grandmother passed away leaving me very confused. My mother thought it would be a good idea for me to start going to a local Baptist church. Well I attended that church for years. About middle school age I felt a tugging on my heart by God. I was not ready for such a commitment so I ignored it.
When I was 18 years old (the summer before my last year of High School), I was driving down a road I'd driven down a thousand times before and a drunk driver hit my truck head on! My mother was with me in the passenger side. I was in and out of it, but I remember watching my only parent bleed to death. I had multiple serious injuries. I thought I was going to die. So out of fear of going to a Hell, that I had heard so much about, I asked the Lord to save me. That old destroyed pick up truck became my alter. I began to just pray. You see I did not come to know Jesus because I loved Him so much. It was for selfish reasons! The great thing about God is He just wants our surrender. At that moment I surrendered my life to Him. I knew that if I did die at that moment I would go to be with Him. I can't even explain the peace that came over me. It was truly amazing!
Well from that moment on I followed Him the best that I possibly could. Sure I make mistakes in life. Alot in fact. I have been serving God in ministry from that day forward. I've had ups and downs just like everyone else. Changes come and changes go but the Bible says that "Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever!"
God has blessed me in so many ways from that moment in my life. I married my High School sweetheart. We have two amazing children and one on the way! We are not rich but He has always provided for us. God has seen us through some tough times in our eleven years of marriage. I am convinced that we have a strong marriage because of our relationship with our maker! In a world were just about all of our friends and family have gone through a divorce.
If you've read this far into this then you may be interested in starting your marriage off in the right direction. Here is how.
How to become a Christian
Romans 10:13 says "For whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved"
There is a God. Just about everyone in the world believes that. Even small tribes in jungles of the world dance around fires worshiping something. Why? Because we are born with a God-Shaped hole in our hearts.
Romans 3:23 says "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God",
Thats why we long for redemption.
Romans 5:8 tells us "when we were in our sin Christ Jesus came to die for us."
For love to be love... for God to be God... and for humans to be humans.... God gave us a choice. we can choose to love ourselves and turn to our selfish pursuits. That is sin. In our sin we cannot know God and His love. The result of sin is that we are lost.... separated from God.... Death! Yes the just payment or wages for our sin is death. We all know that our bodies will die... but the bible talks about two kinds of death... the second death being separation from God forever.
The Good News.... John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life."
God's love has no limits.
God loves no matter what! That is Great news!
To believe in Jesus will result in confessing that faith with one's mouth.
Do you acknowledge that you are a sinner?
Do you believe by faith that Jesus, God's Son, died for your sin on the cross?
Will you confess Him now as Lord and God?
Romans 10:13 says "for Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved."
This verse does not mean that you have to clean up your life before coming to a relationship with Him... isn't that good news! We just have to trust Him.
I believe that this is the best foundation to build your marriage on!
Thank You for taking the time to read it!
